Fussy Super Critical Dev Peoples - A Christmas Grmbl

We all know one. Every development team has one.

For Interwave this position is shared between us in a very special way. We all moan about something or other, whether it be Brecht complaining about the "Quadratic Distance Falloff" of a lamp on a table. Olly moaning about "F*in Heap Corruption Again." James and Olly about the VGUI editor. Xanthi about "The unwrap on this "F*in grinder"(that will make sense come release). Ben moaning about the schedule, Lane about .... well actually Lane can moan quite contently about anything ;). And finally me moaning about my precious "Double Verticies" or "UV texture resolution consistancy." Oh and if i catch you with a concave quad! oooh you dont want to be within arms reach, or the missile trajectory of one of the audio interface adaptors on my desk!.

Those of you who brave the Steamfriends teamspeak to see us at work (which is 0 :P just the way we like it, but of hypothetical means lets say some of you did) would just hear a channel full of usually about 6 moaning devs all passing the daily "grmbl grmbl grmbl." Which brings me on to my next "Grmbl" this blog entry.

InterWave Studios Wishes You A Very Merry Christmas!

On behalf of everyone at InterWave Studios I would like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Do Not Fear, The InterSanta has set off to deliver the first of hopefully many upcoming InterWave Goodies early in the New Year!

Until Then! Have A Good One!

Some Website Updates for you all

Hello interwave community,

This is probably the first time you have heard of me so ill do a introduction first, My name is Scott Jones and I’m one of the Website Designers/Developers working on the interwave projects. Stargate The Last Stand, The current Interwave Website, Current Interwave Forum and The new Stargate The Last Stand Forum Themes/templates was done by me. With some help from Michael Morris and Olly in doing final touch ups before release.

Well I have been doing the new Stargate The Last Stand Forum theme for the past few days now, We was not sure what type of look and feel we wanted with it so I tried out loads of different layouts and designs before I chose the one which is currently almost finished. The new forum theme blends well with the Stargate Theme but with added personal touch to make it more user friendly and faster loading for users.

The theme still has minor changes left and a final cross browser check before release. I’m hoping you will enjoy using the theme and hope you don’t find any bugs and problems on release. But if you do don’t be afraid to report any and all that you see.

Don't go changin'... To try and please me...

Hello Everyone.

This is just a quick post to update everyone a little bit on our progress. Nothing special, just a development rant!

Development is going really well actually. With recent game releases such as the Left4Dead Demo, Dead Space, Little Big Planet, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3... I am surprised that the development team has kept such a strong focus. We have some new developers on board, broadening our art department. We have the two ladies from Southampton Solent University joining us as prop modellers, Vicky and Sam, as well as Brandon, our new American friend and Weapon modeller. Several other developers are still being inducted, including several animators and 3D artists, which is exactly what we need to get the ball rolling faster!

Stargate The Last Stand website make-over

As some of you may have noticed, the Stargate TLS website (www.stargatetls.net) has had a face-lift. Not only has the design of the website completely changed, the structure behind it has also changed, to the same system as the InterWave Studios website, allowing for cross-website integration.

SGTLS Website: The NEW Stargate TLS WebsiteSGTLS Website: The NEW Stargate TLS Website

The website had been in the planning and preparation stages for about a month where constant design changes were being made to give you, the user, the best Stargate experience. After about one week of coding and developing, the new website was ready to be unveiled to the masses.

Abydos playtest

Tonight we did some playtesting with our Stargate: The Last Stand game and after some time we felt like shooting some nice pictures of some of the most interesting spots in the map. You can visit the screenies by clicking here.

Abydos Gameplay Update [Rings]

Abydos Rings and Stargate

Hey, hope everyone is liking the new website, hats of the Michiel who put alot of time into getting everything working together. I wanted to keep you all posted on some of the progress being made on Abydos. While Brecht has been working hard on tweaking the SGC I've been taking some time to optimize his Abydos map and install some transporter rings to spice things up. I must say Abydos looks spectacular, jaw dropping even, we're all very excited to see it near it's completion.

On the optimization side of things I've been squeezing every last bit of performance out of the map to give everyone that extra few frames per second you'll need to avoid getting pwned by the InterWave Staff members! While I was at it I managed to cut compile time by more than 60%, a big time saver for such an open map on the source engine.

Abydos will have 3 sets of transporter rings, each being 2-way teleporters but with a catch. You can't just go ringing from one set of rings to another. There will be limitations on where and when you can use the rings so as to enhance the gameplay. On the technical side I've been using every entity at my disposal to make the rings as spectaular looking as I can. There are still some bugs and limitations to iron out but nothing that can't be overcome.

StargateTLS Game Play... Full Steam

Hey Guys,

Just a quick update, Olly, Louis, Jeroen and myself jumped ingame earlier to checkout the gameplay dynamics in the Abydos map (courtasy of Brecht). Everything is coming across absolutely awsomely, I've honestly never seen such a well balanced Goa'uld staff weapon in any game before... and even Ben Lenzo said himself that Alliance's Staff Weapon was awkward to balance! That's all thanks to Louis. Legend.

The main idea behind this is that we want to keep you 'the community' up to date on progress of each department within our studio. Prepare for more soon...
